LITEBLOCK – Lightweight Blocks Philippines
A company in Cebu, the Philippines called Liteblock is revolutionizing the booming construction business with a new kind of patented Hollow Block.
Using Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) technology they are manufacturing a lightweight concrete block that has many advantages over traditional lightweight blocks in the Philippines.
The companies CEO and former Pinoy Big Brother winner Slater Young have developed Liteblock to solve many problems construction Filippino companies face.
There are many advantages to Liteblock because as well as being eco-friendly they are very efficient thermally and therefore they help to reduce heat/cold in buildings. This is a major plus point when we take into consideration the Filippino climate. It’s very porous in nature which means it’s very fire resistant
They are also extremally porous by nature which means they are very fire resistant, again fire is a big problem in the county. They are very workable when it come to accurate cutting, which in turn minimizes waste.
Being Lightweight blocks from Autoclaved aerated concrete they can save on energy costs, also they are a larger lightweight block faster completion in the Philippines. Compared to traditional hollow blocks it’s estimated that Liteblock can reduce the cost of the project by over 10%
They also save on energy it’s a great plus factor that makes them very insulator so the interior is easy to maintain. Liteblock is extremely airy and reduces humidity within the building. An ACC Hollow Block will absorb allot of moisture whilst releasing humidity.
Liteblock is a Non-toxic form of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. They not attract rodents pests like termites and will not be damaged by vermin and insects.
Lightweight Concrete blocks from Liteblock weigh about one-fifth of typical concrete blocks. They are Long lasting concrete hollow blocks and the lifespan of an LITEBLOCK is allot longer when compared to traditional hollow blocks.
So what we have is a market, which is ultimately influenced by a climate change so the Philippines is starting to demand more eco-friendly materials. The desire to contribute and protect the environment has resulted in more interest for choosing greener alternatives.
According to the Masons themselves, they find it very easily to install.
The Liteblock plant is a 2,000-square meter production plant in Cebu, Philippines and they can produce around 3,000 liteblocks a day.
Contractors and developers already know about the technology and it’s not difficult to persuade them to install it. However, Liteblocks goal is to convince individual homeowners to also start to appreciate it.
As from 2013, the demand for cement in the Philippines, concrete being the main ingredient, reached 18 million tons and forecasts indicate the sector will grow by at least 15 percent every year because of the construction industry in the Philippines especially in major cities like Cebu.
So it looks like Liteblock has a great future as one of the leading producers of Lightweight Blocks in the Philippines.
